Buying Legit Software - THIS is my reward?
OK ... I'm going to be frank in this discussion ...
I've haven't pirated a game in YEARS ... YEARS ... for the past six or seven years I'd say, I buy each and every single one of my games. I'm old enough and make enough money that I feel that it's only fair that I pay for the things which I use.
So ... yesterday I went out and picked up a copy of Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 ... it's been out for a while, and EB is selling it for about half of it's original price. (Just because I support the games industry, doesn't mean I have to get reamed by the industry!) I unwrap the game, stick it in my drive, yadda yadda yadda ... it asks me for the CD Key ... I put it in ...
'The CD Key you have entered is invalid'
Whu? I re-entered the key four or five times, caps on, caps off, all to no avail. So I start trolling some threads, seeing if anyone else is having this issue. Sure enough, the Atari threads have several discussions about RCT3 shipping with bad keys.
I'm not really sure what I'm hoping to get from starting this thread aside from maybe my five minutes on the soap box. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has ever had any kind of horror story like this ... I know that if enough people post, I could always throw out my story about what I did to my machine to play Doom 3 ...
I'm just sooooo ANGRY right now ... and their support line doesn't open until 9 am ... PACIFIC TIME!!!
Come my friends ... come vent!!!

You couldn't return the game to get another copy? I thought EB did that.

Or you could hijack a construction crane for hours on end, and when the media arrives, you can tell them what happened. They will immediately put pressure on the company who may very well not only give you a new game, but perhaps versions 1 and 2 as well. You will have learned psychiatrists analyzing you from afar and will garner support for the little man, the gamer with a cause, everywhere, becoming in short a folk hero.
I'd be interested in knowing the outcome if you decide to try this.

I HAVE ... the solution ...
I tried the crane thing ... didn't work so well ... thanks Keesa ... I only got about five feet off the ground and then got a little too scared ...
And I actually tried all of those things which you all suggested ... went looking for a key gen ... went back to EB ... wrote a letter or two ... couldn't find a key gen, EB had no other copies within a fifty mile radius, still haven't heard anything on the letter ...
In the end ... a simple phone call to thier support staff got the issue ironed out ... so I'm feeling much better ... now ... I can put the gf in front of this and slowly get her to become a gamer ... MWA HAH HAH HAH!!!
(What? Did you actually think it was for me? pshhh)

Then you better add Sims to your new list of games. That gets girls hooked like nothing I've ever seen before. Its basically brings them back to their kid days of playing with a doll house.

Fssh ... what do you think the first game I put on was? I'm just having a couple around ... so that she doesn't feel like I'm forcing them down her throat ...
